Craniofascial therapy

Craniofascial Therapy

Craniofascial Therapy (CFT) is a specialized form of manual therapy that combines principles from two established modalities: craniosacral therapy and myofascial release. It is based on the theory that the craniosacral system (which includes the bones of the skull, the spine, and the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord) and the fascial system (the body's interconnected web of connective tissue) are not separate but rather a single, integrated system.

Practitioners use a very light, gentle touch to assess and release restrictions in this interconnected system. The goal is to identify areas of tension and "unwind" them, which can improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and release fascial strain throughout the body.

Here's what makes craniofascial therapy distinct and what it is often used for:

  • Holistic Approach: Unlike some therapies that focus on a single area of pain, CFT takes a full-body approach. A restriction in the head may be causing tension and pain in the lower back.

  • Emphasis on the Fascia: While craniosacral therapy also addresses fascial restrictions, CFT places a stronger emphasis on the body's fascial web as a whole, from the head to the feet.

  • Conditions Treated: CFT is used to treat a wide range of conditions in people of all ages, from newborns to adults. Some common uses include:

    • In infants and children: Addressing issues like birth trauma, colic, reflux, difficulties with feeding and latching (e.g., related to tongue-tie), and torticollis (twisted neck).

    • In adults: Providing relief for chronic pain, migraines and headaches, TMJ (jaw) dysfunction, neck and back pain, concussions, post-surgical recovery, and insomnia.

  • Gentle and Non-Invasive: The techniques are very gentle and do not involve aggressive manipulation or force, making it a suitable and safe option for even the most sensitive patients. Many people experience a sense of deep relaxation during and after a session
